AKKORDEON BAROQUE
The Baroque revisited
When I first went to live in Berlin, the U bahn hosted a wealth of really incredible accordion players whose specialism was the Baroque. Their virtuosity was in contrast to the surroundings and I was really inspired by their playing. It seemed as though, through grappling with adapting Bach to their instrument, that something else was brought out in the music. There was for me a freshness to it and a sense of surprise and re-discovery of the music. There was also something inspiring about the need in these players to communicate this music that drove them to stretch their technique to the limit to that end. The series AKKORDEON BAROQUE takes this approach to music of the baroque in this spirit. We perform music of Bach, Purcell, Vivaldi and many others, also weaving into the programme experimental takes on the voice/accordion duo.
